Which STRIDA do I have?

Every STRIDA has the same triangle and belt drive and folds the same way. Still, not every part fits every model. Answer these three questions and you will know your STRIDA within a minute.

1. How big are your wheels?

A STRIDA has 16 or 18 inch wheels. There are two ways to tell:

Look at the tyre

16 x 1.50 · 40-305
16 inch
18 x 1.25 · 32-355
18 inch

The size is printed on the side of the tyre, for example 16 x 1.50 or 18 x 1.25, and often also in millimetres such as 40-305 or 32-355. The second number is the rim size: 305 = 16 inch, 355 = 18 inch.

Count the spokes

5 broad plastic spokes: STRIDA LT (16 inch)
5 broad plastic spokes: STRIDA LT (16 inch)
24 spokes: 16 inch (STRIDA 5 / QR+)
24 spokes: 16 inch (STRIDA 5 / QR+)
36 spokes: 18 inch (STRIDA SX)
36 spokes: 18 inch (STRIDA SX)

Count the spokes of one wheel. Five broad plastic spokes: a STRIDA LT. Thin spokes: 24 spokes is 16 inch, 36 spokes is 18 inch.

Side by side you can see it straight away: an 18 inch wheel is about 5 cm bigger.

  • 16 inch: STRIDA LT, STRIDA 5 / QR+ or STRIDA EVO 3S 16″
  • 18 inch: STRIDA SX or STRIDA EVO 3S 18″

2. Can you change gears?

Do you shift by briefly pedalling backwards (three gears)? Then it is a STRIDA EVO 3S. The gears sit in the bottom bracket (Sturmey Archer), so the EVO has its own bottom bracket, cranks and chainwheel. The EVO is no longer made, but its parts are still available. The wheel size from question 1 tells you whether it is the 16 or the 18 inch version.

You can also recognise an EVO 3S by the logo on the lower frame tube: STRIDA EVO with a 3 in a circle.

Do you shift by tapping the crank with your heel (two gears)? Then it is a STRIDA MAS. We have not sold it and have no parts made for the MAS. The frame and most other parts are the same as on the LT (16 inch) or the SX (18 inch), so choose that model below. Note: the MAS uses a different belt size.

Never need to shift? Then it is a single speed: one gear that is always right, like most STRIDAs. Simple, light and low-maintenance. It is an LT, a 5 / QR+ or an SX (18 inch).

3. 16 inch and single speed: LT or 5 / QR+?

  • Composite wheels with five wide spokes (glass fibre reinforced): STRIDA LT. The LT comes without a kickstand, but one is available as an extra, so yours may have one.
  • Aluminium rims with thin spokes and a quick release on the seat clamp, kickstand as standard: STRIDA 5 / QR+.

An older STRIDA?

Older models partly use different parts. Do you have a STRIDA 3? See STRIDA 3 parts. The very first STRIDA, the STRIDA 1 (MK1) from the 1980s, is even in the collection of Museum Boijmans van Beuningen in Rotterdam. Do you have an MK1, or are you not sure? Email a photo of the side of your bike to info@strida.nl and we will help you find out what fits.

STRIDA S30X
STRIDA S30X
SX with carbon wheels and S30X labels

The STRIDA S30X (no longer made) is an SX with carbon wheels and S30X labels. All SX parts fit it.

The STRIDA C1 (no longer made) has a carbon frame and carbon wheels and always came with 18-inch wheels. The other parts fit the C1 too; only the handlebars, the seat holders, the rear racks, the mudguards and the mud flaps do not.

The STRIDA Mini (also called STRIDA 4; from 2008, no longer made; for riders up to about 1.63 m) has smaller 14-inch wheels, a smaller frame and a different belt (1280). The other parts are the same as on the STRIDA 5 and fit the Mini too; only the wheel parts, the belt, the chainwheel and the cranks do not.
